Denny Hamlin NASCAR Next Gen Car_ In a recent discussion, NASCAR Cup Series driver and team co-owner Denny Hamlin echoed a sentiment that’s been circulating within the stock car racing community: the Next Gen car, hailed as the seventh generation Cup car, has left both fans and drivers wanting on certain tracks.
While the Next Gen car has proven to enhance racing on intermediate-style tracks and elevate performance on road courses, it has struggled to impress on short tracks like Martinsville Speedway and superspeedways such as Daytona and Talladega.
During an episode of his widely-followed podcast, Hamlin delved into the need for potential adjustments to the current package, suggesting that the governing body might need to explore modifications to address the shortcomings experienced on these tracks.
Denny Hamlin elaborated on his popular podcast and said-
“ In 2006, my rookie season, bump-drafting was already in full swing. It’s a proven strategy, but cars need more speed individually.“
He added:
” In NASCAR, veering out of formation, particularly with only a couple of cars, spells trouble as the drag pulls you back, relegating you straight to the rear. Hence, drivers opt to stick to the two-by-two lineup, resulting in what resembles a procession rather than a race.”
A potential remedy to the challenges highlighted by Denny Hamlin regarding the Next Gen car could involve increasing the horsepower, a suggestion echoed by both fans and drivers. Whether NASCAR considers these proposals remains uncertain.
NASCAR enthusiasts took to social media to express their diverse perspectives on enhancing the Next Gen Cup car package. While some disagreed with the sentiments expressed by the 23XI Racing co-owner, others supported his viewpoint.
One fan expressed dissent, stating, “Hard disagree. Kyle Busch came from the back in less than 20 laps multiple times during the race.”
Conversely, another supporter wrote, “Has a point. The fastest lap in the race was 17 mph faster than the pole speed.”
